International Day of Rural Women

Meet Poppy Baggott, a Rural Surveyor for Galbraith, based in Castle Douglas, Dumfries & Galloway.

As well as her professional work for Galbraith, Poppy also works on her family’s beef and sheep farm and is also a wife and mum.

Women’s contribution to rural communities often plays a huge part in their success and the range of activities that Poppy is involved in is a good example, encompassing everything from fundraising, being a member of the parent council of the local school and hands-on work on the farm and maintenance work such as repairing hedges and stone walls.

Poppy also shoots a few times a year and takes part in beating for shoot days on neighbouring farms on occasion.

Poppy praises the local people who are enthusiastic about rural conservation and says that estates  and farms in her area help by ensuring that housing is let to local people.

Do you know someone who deserves recognition for their work in a rural community? Nominate them or nominate Poppy for the prize here:

Competition closes midnight tonight.

I do think that you should write more on this
subject matter, it may not be a taboo matter but usually
people do not talk about such topics. To the next!
    Cheers!!
